HELP WANTED

FULL TIME AND PART TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The Underground Web World is expanding, and a number of full time and part time positions are opening up.  Our pay levels are generally competitive.   Whether a certain position should or should not be full time depends on the specific needs and abilities of the person.   We use a lot of people on a consultant basis.

If you are not sure that you could make a major commitment to us, you could test things out as a volunteer.  For more information about this, click here.  (Note while there is no salary for volunteers, we do pay expenses, like concert tickets.)  This is a good way to get valuable entertainment business experience.

Foreign language skills, particularly German and Chinese are very important to us.  Other key languages are Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Russian.

If you know of somebody else who might be interested in our positions, please call this web site to their attention.

Privacy is a top priority for us.  All applications are confidential.   Only two members of our staff have access to e mails.

You do not necessarily need a formal resume but you do need to send in an e mail listing specific qualifications.

Instructions on how to apply for a position with us are at the bottom of this page.  Please follow these instructions and pay attention to the qualifications listed for each position.  We are very open to the idea of exploring the potential for a full-time position by hiring somebody on a consulting basis first.  Here are the key positions that are open:

Note: We are looking for full-time staff and part-time staff only in the Washington, D.C. area and  in Berlin, Germany.    Outside of the D.C. area we are looking only for part-time people in the near term but might consider converting some positions to full-time if things worked out.

WRITERS AND RESEARCHERS

We are currently looking  for part-time writers to cover the metal scene but who could also cover science fiction art, film and other artistic matters.  We are particularly interested in having somebody write a detailed introduction to the many resources on our site.  Prior experience is not essential but you must be well informed.  Please send us information about your favorite bands and(or) artists so we can evaluate your potential.  You do not need to have a formal resume although this is the best way to apply.  A useful letter about what you have to offer could be acceptable.  Foreign language skills, particularly German, would be a plus.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

We are looking for creative photographers to cover concerts and take pictures of models.  We are looking for people who are really into metal and artistic subcultures like science fiction art.  A sense of style is important.  You do not need to be a "professional" photographer.  You DO need creativity.  Hopefully you have a digital SLR and good Photoshop skills.  Send us a Myspace page or a photo-sharing site where we can see samples of your work.

GRAPHIC ARTISTS

What we are looking for are people who have some artistic skills and some understanding of the subjects we cover.

We are particularly interested in finding artists who can create great artwork.  Styles we like are painters like Royo and Frazetta.  We suggest applicants check their web sites,  Luis Royo   and   Frank Frazetta.

We use the latest versions of  Microsoft Front Page, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office.  Prospective employees need to be proficient in these programs.  We are 100% Windows.

VIDEO EDITORS AND FILM MAKERS

We are looking for people with good video editing and film making skills.  We are 100% Windows and do not use Macs.  We are very interested in expanding our You Tube site.  You do not need the most expensive editing software.  You do need creativity.

HOSTESS FOR VIDEOS ON METAL AND THE WORLD OF BIKER CULTURE

We are looking for someone who is articulate and comfortable in front of a camera.  Prior experience on video is not essential but you must be well informed about metal, and biker culture.  Must be willing to do a limited amount of traveling, such as attending and socializing at concert and biker events.  Ideally, this person could also serve as a traveling reporter to cover areas not on our list of key cities.  A picture is required for this position so we can get some idea of how you would appear on the video.  Myspace profiles with current pictures are welcome.  You must live in the Washington, D.C. area for this position.   We are looking for somebody who can attend and socialize with participants at events like Sturgis and Daytona Bike Week.

MODELS ( Click here for our models page.)

CLERICAL

We are looking for part-time and full-time here.

A key part of clerical work here is filing and ordering research material, as well as picking up and delivering material that we need.  We are looking for people who have potential for promotion and have an interest in our programs.  You MUST have:

Reliable transportation (car or motorcycle).  (Metro alone will not do it.)

Basic Windows computer skills, and we would hope you would have your own Windows computer with high speed internet access (although this is not an absolute precondition of being hired).

You must live in Washington, D.C. area, and preference is given to people near Old Town, Alexandria and those who are fluent in at least one foreign language.

We do offer training for promising clerical people to increase their earnings and potential by developing their computer, artistic and research skills.   (Note, however, that basic Windows computer skills are required.  We do not and will not offer training for people who lack basic computer skills.)

We want people who are interested in our work. Please send us information about your favorites bands and other matters related to our work.

This is a great opportunity for people interested in the arts.  The hours are flexible if you are in a band (and do not like having to go to work at 9:00 AM).  Many people here are musicians and artists so it is an artistic environment.

BERLIN PROJECT

We are planning to open an office in Berlin, Germany.  We are looking for a project director, writers and photographers.

We want to build a presence in Europe.  The UWW Berlin Project is to be the base for that expansion.

You must be fluent in German and English for the position of director.  Other positions require fluency in German and basic understanding of English.
